Introduced in 1949 the Full Sized Oldsmobile 88 was produced until 1999 and became the Top Selling line for over 20 years. The 88 was a representation of an GMs image especially during its first 3 years. The Body had changed dramatically and improvements throughout the 50s brought many new Oldsmobile buyers to the showrooms. The Super 88 Oldsmobile was one notch above a Deluxe, but came stock with the 98 engine and upscale trim. The super 88 one of the best performing automobiles due a large Higher Horsepower lightweight Overhead Valve V8 fitted in a smaller body specifying it as a Super 88 Oldsmobile, this was the one to buy. Sales peaked, competing models were dropped and the 88 Oldsmobile out sold the competition. Today stock Super 88 Oldsmobiles are difficult to find and very desirable among collectors.
